Cast On: Knitting project planning for Vellichor

My newest knitting project is the Vellichor by Andrea Mowry of Drea Renee Knits. This is a loose-fit cropped lighter-weight short-sleeved sweater. It is knit in light-fingering weight yarn. It has some interesting details with a slip stitch pattern creating a gridded pattern throughout. I thought this would make a great spring piece. I have previously made a Weekender and a Shift Cowl, and I love Andrea Mowry patterns generally, her style is great. It looks like the overall construction may be similar to the Weekender since it's bottom up and has the same ribbing and shoulder join, or so it seems from the images.

While the original pattern is knit in light-fingering I decided to knit this on a budget. The usual light-fingering options tend to be more expensive I've found. I picked a fingering weight (also 4 ply in the UK) yarn and am using Drops Flora which I got from Wool Warehouse. This is a 65% wool/35% alpaca yarn. I've had good experiences with Drops alpaca blends in the past so I thought I'd give this a try, though I am having to decrease from the suggested needle size. I went for a light colourway similar to the light Andrea Mowry sample. Since I started making my own clothes I tend to gravitate to deeper colours such as navy, dark teal and burgundy. I made a real effort with this project to pick something a bit lighter for spring/summer. I went with Sand as the main colour, Desert Rose as contrast colour 1 and Caramel as contrast colour 2. I hope it turns out well and brings me out of my comfort zone! I'm a bit apprehensive since this is the largest project I've knit in fingering weight. At least it doesn't have long sleeves!
